SEO: An Integral Part of Website Design

by medlinks on February 16, 2009

Web designers are in greater demand than ever before as the proliferation of the Internet into both the home and workplace continues to grow at an exponential rate.  While web designers are involved in the conceptualization, planning, modeling and delivery of electronic media, their area of specialty is in creating electronic media platforms, not writing.

Writers and various copywriters construct the text and any attendant message (both direct as well as subliminal).  Highly specialized websites that target a very specific market obviously require copywriters, consultants and online marketing specialists who are well versed in that area of interest.  The most efficient and effective method of exposing and saturating a targeted market or demographic to a website uses search engine optimization (SEO).

SEO is put into play when an SEO service — working in collaboration with a web designer and their client — produces a list of “keywords” that can be either general or very specific to the client’s product or service.  Keywords are imbedded and distributed throughout text that is then included into the website that is being designed.  When a prospective client enters one of those keywords into the search engine, they are redirected to links or websites that provide them with information on the product or service that they are searching for.  This provides a direct connection between the consumer of the product or service and the provider of that product or service.

A good example of how the process works would be an individual who is searching for a health care provider or a specific health care service.  By entering one of the keywords into the search engine, they would be directed to a list of physician’s websites, medical websites, medical equipment providers, pharmaceutical websites, non-profit organizations, etc.  By further refining their search with keywords more applicable to their specific need, they can reduce the list down even further.

This is made possible because SEO services and medical SEO services employ and use medical copywriters, skilled medical website copywriters, print ad copywriters and a whole cadre of other writers, consultants and online marketing specialists who can translate medical language and terminology into language, terms and expressions commonly used and understood by non-medical professionals.  By translating and using language that is less imposing and therefore less threatening the website designer is able to mold the website into a more user-friendly format.  This results in a greater comfort level and encourages the reader to follow through with contacting the provider to seek out the product or service that the website is providing access to.

As customers gain access to the product or service being advertised, they will communicate their satisfaction and share their initial method of accessing it to friends, family, co-workers, associates, etc.  They, in turn, access the website seeking similar information as the referrer.  This multiplies the efficiency of the website by establishing and perpetuating indirect marketing via word-of-mouth, e-mails, instant messages, text messages and blogs.
